Elon Musk has geared up to compete with models like ChatGPT and Gemini. It was claimed that Grok, developed by xAI, will develop a supercomputer to be much more powerful. This project will be used to increase the company’s capabilities.
Elon Musk wants to build xAI supercomputer with 100 thousand chips
Speaking at an investor event in recent weeks, Musk discussed xAI’s project specifically designed to train Grok. Accordingly, he said, he would need about 100 thousand artificial intelligence chips. These chips will be connected together in what Musk called the “super factory of computing”.
It was claimed that the supercomputer created using NVIDIA H100 chips will be at least 4 times larger than the largest GPU configuration that currently exists. This seems to allow Grok to reach a new level of intelligence.
Musk allegedly aims to have the supercomputer operational by the fall of 2025. He said he would personally oversee its delivery in accordance with the timeline. In this context, he will accelerate work on xAI.
Grok, the first model of xAI, is currently available for testing as part of the X Premium+ subscription. Although it is not yet at the GPT-4 or Gemini 1.5 level, it can take flight with a 100 thousand chip supercomputer. Musk admits that it lags behind leaders like Google and OpenAI in terms of overall capability.
xAI is currently in an extensive financing round to fund its AI projects. Musk has told investors that this round could value the company at over $24 billion when completed.
